The pictures are the left, centre and right views of a British Airborne Cemetary.  Click on the pictures for a larger view. From Mr. John Butler "Early on in Normandy days General Gale decide that all our KIA's should be brought to one spot for internment, and the field next to the Ranville church yard was chosen. This quickly became a recognised as permanent war gravesite and as a result there are some bodies from non airborne units there, but it is mainly airborne and we 6th Div types consider it as ours. The Building on the right is the Ranville Church, note with a tower separate from the body of the church, quite unusual." (Pictures courtesy of Mr. John Butler)

IN MEMORY OF.........

This is a list of those members of the 7th Para Bn who gave their lives on D-Day: June 6, 1944

A special thanks to Mr. John Butler who was able to provide me with all of the names of men who perished on D-Day for the 7th Para. He also had this to add "You should have 68 names all told. You will note that there are far more than The Colonel gave on his after "D" day report. Which of course shows that there were people from the Bn in other places, i.e. other Bn’s that they joined up with due to the scattering and DZ casualties etc."

Pte. Alan Whitty 888352 aged 19 A/T Platoon HQ company
Buried in the little churchyard in Benouville where he fell. I met Georges Gondree and his wife who owned the inn at the bridge in 1948 and his wife told me she helped to bury my brother.
